Row Addition With Carry
Addition can be performed by drawing sticks equal to the digits in the question and then counting all the sticks together we get the desired result.
For example let us solve the question
In the figure below there are 5 sticks for the first digit 5 and 9 sticks for the second digit 9 and then counting the sticks together we will get the desired result.
While counting the sticks we will group the the ten sticks together to form a bundle and we will place a 1 at the tens place and then count the remaining sticks which is equal to 4 digit at units place.
Hence the answer is 14
